Bad news, guys: NOTHING stands the test of time. ZEN IN YO’ FACE.
For me, improv is all about celebrating and exploring the idea that a single moment can be the most important thing in the world.
I’d write more, but I don’t have time — I have to go build a skyscraper sitcom novel Academy Award monument castle.

Allow me to be cynical for a moment.
Philosophy is a very interesting major in college. It can be applied to many aspects of one’s life. But there is no job within philosophy except teaching philosophy. Eventually, especially if you master it, continued study of philosophy will become a waste of time and life because there is nothing to show for all the time you invest into it. Unless, like Will said, you write a book.
And while one may say, “I have great memories of doing improv, therefore it is not a waste of life.” How many great improv related memories does one need? People have great summer camp related memories. Should People stay in summer camp forever? That would take slots and potential great memories away from kids that will now never experience summer camp.
I think while improv is a lot of fun, in the big picture it doesn’t amount to anything but a tool one can use to make art that can stand the test of time.
If one starts thinking to one’s self, “This is fun and all, but what am I doing?” I think one should take some time off from improv and see what opportunities in life come their way.
Unlike other things in life, opportunities in improv aren’t going anywhere. One can always leave and come back if they miss it.
