Last night I had zero interest in the World Cup. It felt like when the world comes together for the Olympics except this time there’s only one event and it’s a sport I don’t like. But then this morning, out of nothing more than boredom, I educated myself a bit on the month again and the stakes involved with the US team and my interest was suddenly piqued. So, here’s the deal with the World Cup—it’s a tournament of national soccer teams that’s played once every 4 years. It’s the only major tournament in soccer that has such a wide swath of national teams, and every single country sends their best
